Mobile partitions: 5 tips to avoid noise nuisance at the officeBruneau

Modern offices are mostly organised in the form of open spaces, which causes the traditional separation between the different work spaces to fall away. Those open spaces are definitely a step forwards, but only on condition that a few rules of thumb are taken into consideration. Some advantages of the open-plan office that spring to mind are: stronger team spirit, more effortless operations on joint projects, stronger form of communication, etc.

However, you cannot talk about an open-plan office without talking about mobile partitions. There are namely also a number of disadvantages to an open-plan office. If internal discipline is not maintained, an open-plan office can end up as a group chatterbox, and that is obviously not the idea. That is why it is advisable to retain some sort of alternative separation of the office space by means of mobile partitions. That division is made in such a manner that the efficiency of the open-plan office is not lost.

This is why it is important to pay sufficient attention to the manner in which an open-plan office is arranged. Below you find five factors which have to be kept in mind in any event:

  • choose the correct layout for the available office space;
  • when installing mobile partitions, sound reflection must be considered;
  • provide at least one individual space where a small group can sit separately (temporarily) from the others, for example to finish off a specific project;
  • put noisy equipment (coffee machine, printer, etc.) where the disturbing effect is as limited as possible;
  • meetings preferably take place in meeting rooms, not in the open-plan office.

JM Bruneau has accumulated vast experience in the open-plan office and its organisation by means of mobile partitions. That experience may be of use to our customers: if so, we are more than pleased to share it with them. In addition, you can rely on us for a number of products that are important for an open-plan office.

The Callisto low cupboard can serve perfectly as a partition. The cupboard is fully stackable into a single unit, with drawers or doors being used to make the desired storage configuration. The cupboard is particularly sturdy, with laminated panels 18mm thick. The back, which is also laminated and is 8mm thick, guarantees perfect resistance. The drawers slide in and out on a wheel-and-track mechanism and the fact that the whole unit rests on swivelling casters makes it mobile. There are 2-compartment and 4-compartment models available and these surfaces guarantee perfect stability.

There is also a mobile cabinet for horizontal filing, with 6 extendable drawers for documents with a maximum size of 24cm x 32cm, which is very useful as a mobile partition.

Then there is also a multi-purpose black universal cabinet. This is particularly practical and ideal for photocopiers, laser printers and fax machines. The structure consists of laminated fibreglass 19mm thick, with a work surface of 25mm. The cabinet is equipped with a shelf and 2 swinging doors, 5 swivelling casters, and has the following outer dimensions: H 62.5cm x W 80cm x D 53cm. It can support loads of up to 100kg in weight.
